20th May 2006 | New album will be released on the WBR/Reprise record label

According to the Smashing Pumpkins' My Space page, the Pumpkins are signed to Reprise Records, part of the Warner Music Group. Corgan's The Future Embrace was also released on this label, but it will be the first Reprise release for a Pumpkins album. Reprise Records, however, do not currently list the Smashing Pumpkins as an artist on their website, whilst Virgin Records, the band's previous record company, still list them.

12th May 2006 | Billy Corgan's site is no longer

Billy Corgan's official website, www.billycorgan.com, now has the title "SMASHING PUMPKINS" and the same content as the official Smashing Pumpkins website. It seems safe to assume that the new Pumpkins album will go ahead, but the change in Billy's site suggests that plans for his second solo album will not come to fruition.

12th May 2006 | The Smashing Pumpkins Reunion and New Album

As the majority of you will already know, the Smashing Pumpkins are reforming and will soon begin working on their new album.

Billy Corgan announced that he was reforming the Pumpkins in June 2005, by taking out a full page advert in the Chicago Tribune and announcing it on his website. Confirmation, however, did not come until the official Smashing Pumpkins website was re-launched (having previously re-directed visitors to Billy Corgans site) with the following message:

"it's official, The Smashing Pumpkins are currently writing songs for their upcoming album, their first since 2000. no release date has yet been set, but the band plans to begin recording this summer."

Although the plans have been released, it is still uncertain who will actually be in the band. It is most likely that Jimmy Chamberlin will be on board, but the status of James Iha, Darcy Wretzky and Melissa Auf Der Maur is uncertain. An MTV article discusses this further.

Assuming everything goes to plan, this will be the first Pumpkins album since 2000, and hopefully the first of many more from the re-formed band.
